Ah...hello there (or "konnichi wa," if you prefer). If you've somehow inadvertently arrived here, then it's quite possible you've been searching for information regarding the AnimEigo chatroom...which is good, as that is this lone page's sole purpose. Let us first, however, filter out those who likely do not want nor need to be here: that is, those who aren't interested in AnimEigo chat as it "once was;" from 1996-1999, to be more precise. Those of you who are of the "newer breed" of AnimEigo chatters (just before its demise), obviously, are more than welcome to read on; however, you may find this page to be even more lifeless and uninteresting than those who were in fact there during this time period. Feel free to stay, or to seek refuge somewhere else.

Now that we have that out of the way, you may be left wondering why exactly this page exists, and rightfully so. I will admit that this page exists primarily for my own humble benefit. It has indeed been a great deal of time since I last inhabited AnimEigo chat on a daily/nightly basis, and I feel that much the same can be said for many of the people whom I used to chat with on said daily/nightly basis. What exactly is my primary goal here? It certainly is not to muster up any sort of reunion; such events are often tacky, and more often depressing. It certainly is not to prove how "popular" Vampire Hunter Dan once was, as that would be nothing more than a falsehood. It is, however, to satisfy my own curiosity, as to where many of my old "friends" and acquaintances ended up; how many have disappeared from the face of the Internet itself, and how many are still lurking about? How many are still interested in maintaining/re-establishing contact, and how many simply want Vampire Hunter Dan to leave them be? Time will tell, I suppose...or perhaps not.

At any rate, before all of this becomes far too dark and brooding, I should say that I had many a wonderful time in AnimEigo chat (aka "The House of Jurai"). I'm looking for no one person in particular over any other, as I feel that we all had our moments together in this room, whether exceedingly brief (such as a simple greeting) or over a lengthy period of time. I should stress that I in no way have any intention of attempting to "round everyone up" and have a rousing reunion; my reasons for this are numerous. I do, however, hope to make contact with as many of you as possible, and so, I have provided a list of chatters below--based upon my memory and my e-mail archives--whom I feel I once made at least acquaintance--if not friendship--with. Although I have made a few voluntary omissions based on a number of factors (such as a "falling out," etc...), I feel that a good 90% of those that I had meaningful conversations and/or polite greetings with during the 1996-1999 period are represented below; note, however, that my memory is far from perfect, and my forgetting to put you on this list does not necessarily mean that we never had a meaningful conversation in AnimEigo chat--it simply means that my memory is failing me in my "old age," and for that, I truly apologize.

Regardless, please peruse. I have attempted to render the list based upon the chronological order in which I met each of these people; however, I am quite sure that I began to miserably fail this requirement after about 4 or 5 entries (or possibly right from the outset). Each person on the list is represented by their "primary" nickname as I knew it, alias(es) (if applicable), the domain(s) of the e-mail(s) that I have on file for said person (I will not be including full e-mail addresses for obvious reasons, unless of course a specific person requests that I display their full e-mail address), the website(s) of said person (if applicable), and in some cases, a description of any significant memories I may have of said person. Enjoy, and if any of these nicknames (or simply mine) strike a chord, then please consider contacting me. If you would like to be removed--or if you feel that you should be added--to this list, then again, you now know what to do. Should any new/corrected information surface regarding any of those listed below, then I will make changes/additions/subtractions as necessary. Additionally, please note that simply because I do not include a "memories" section under any given nickname, this could be due to a number of factors (i.e. my lackluster memory); therefore, please do not take this to mean that I did not necessarily experience any meaningful chat/e-mail sessions with said person. At any rate, thanks for looking, have fun, and most importantly, please let me know how those of you whom are still "around" feel about this page. Lastly, at the end of this page, I can be contacted via e-mail, IM, and additionally, through my Guestbook if you feel so inclined.

Paladine
aka Pal
aka NurikoP
aka Hotohori
@scf-fs.usc.edu
@geocities.com
@cheerful.com

What to say about Paladine? My first significant chatting experience consisted of a good many hours of long, enlightening anime discussion with Pal and Kain (see below), who had apparently already become acquainted prior to my arrival. We formed The House of Jurai--somewhat of an online anime club (that, consequently, never went anywhere); however, it was certainly enjoyable while it lasted, and the newsletters sent out by Paladine have provided me with an invaluable resource for compiling this list. Paladine's whereabouts--to this day--remain a mystery to me. I am quite sure that this hard worker is out there somewhere, making some large corporation very happy. Whether or not our paths cross again in the future, Paladine's influence on this once-Internet-fledgling shall never be forgotten.

Kain
aka Shinji
@CompuServe.com
@palmnet.net

Kain, quite possibly one of the first (and one of my only) "Internet friends" to ever send me so-called snail mail, introduced himself to me alongside Paladine (see above). I enjoyed reading Kain's always-intriguing fanfiction stories, and discussing anime with him into the darkest hours of the morning within the halls of Jurai. Much like Paladine, Kain's whereabouts remain a mystery to me; however, I have heard from him at least once in the past few years.

Vampire Hunter Dan
aka Sailor D
@borg.com
@webtv.net
@cetlink.net
@rjsonline.net
@hotmail.com
@arcana.zzn.com
Journey Fantasia

This would be me; so, naturally, there is very little of interest to say. I've "been around," and every time that I reminisce regarding the way that AnimEigo chat "used to be," I feel like your typical, every day old man. AnimEigo was quite literally the first chat room that I ever used (one of the first websites, in fact, that I ever visited), and it was essentially my springboard to life outside of my once overly simple, somewhat-sheltered existence. I thank everyone there whomever took the time to chat with me, whether simply in passing, or over a span of months (and in some cases, years). I look forward to hearing from anyone and everyone on this list, regardless of how they might feel about me now (heh). Enjoy.

Pai Ayanokouji
@juno.com

I seem to recall that Pai "was there first." I know of very few chatters who regularly visited AnimEigo chat before Pal, Kain and myself; however--my faulty memory notwithstanding--Pai was indeed one of said chatters. Memories of the "pre-bulletin board-bulletin board" abound.

Bell-Chan
aka Tsunami
@ilhawaii.net

Although I recall only a few chat sessions with Bell-Chan (most of which--I recall--occurred after 3am EST), I do remember each one to have been quite enjoyable, and often a reason for smiling. Bell-Chan's whereabouts fairly quickly became unknown to me, and remain so to this day.

Leon
@iinet.net.au

Affectionately known as my "Australian friend," Leon too only seemed to visit on less-than-frequent occasions; however, each chat with him was an enjoyable learning experience, and I do recall Leon to be one of the first people on this fair planet to have ever sent me e-mail. A genuinely nice person had I ever met one.

Red Wolf
@netusa.net
@hotmail.com

Red Wolf, like many others, seemed to all but vanish at one point; however, I do recall RW sticking around the chat room longer than most. His whereabouts are unknown to me; however, I have received a few indications that the Wolf might still be lurking somewhere in this world-o-cyber.

JFeeple
aka Dr. Diggers
@pldi.net
@yahoo.com
Musings of a Cluttered Mind

A true friend and apparent lover of obscure anime (The Time Etranger and Harmageddon creep to mind), many days and nites in AnimEigo chat were graced with JFeeple's presence. I myself would likely not have made it through some fairly dark periods had it not been for this paragon of intrigue, insight, and Giant Robo fanaticism.

Torako
aka Demon Fighter Torako
aka Soul Tora
@theriver.com
@seductive.com
@geocities.com
Anime 'n' Stuff

An earlycomer to the chat room, Torako--thankfully--remained for a good deal of time, and lifted up my annoyingly-depressed head even at the worst of times. I recall many enjoyable chats with the Demon Fighter, as well as numerous encouraging e-mails, one of which may well have introduced me to the wonderful world of MPEG music (a la Serpent's anime website).

Egg
@hgea.org

Memory serves up very little when it comes to Egg, unfortunately; however, I do recall a few brief and friendly appearances.

Dranoc
aka Gin Ookami
aka Cylon
aka CyberFlame
@dataex.com

In terms of support, few in my life have ever done so much to assist as Dranoc. Many fine chat sessions were had with the elusive Cyberflame, as well as many helpful and comforting e-mails sent and received; sadly, Dranoc disappeared fairly early on in Jurai's existence.

Bean
aka Yo Hinomura
@entercomp.com
@hotmail.com

I do recall the occasional chat with Bean, as well as the occasional e-mail.

Com-Boy
aka Commer
@GTE.net
@hotmail.com

Self-dubbed "Com-Boy" upon first entering AnimEigo chat, I inadvertently took it upon myself to "rename" him Commer, which--for whatever reason--stuck. I enjoyed talking anime and just generally shooting the virtual breeze with Commer both in and outside of the chat room.

Chrissy
aka Kitty C Chan
@juno.com
@ptdprolog.net

Most certainly a "regular" at the AnimEigo chat room of old, I remember having numerous group conversations involving the friendly Chrissy, not to mention no less than an e-mail or two, as well as numerous forwards.

HiPaladin
@scf.usc.edu

Very little comes to mind along with the mention of HiPaladin; however, I do recall a possible connection with Paladine himself, as well as being badgered by the Hi one for enjoying English dubbed anime; nevertheless, I should point out that I've been badgered much more heavily by others, and in far less mature manners (heh).

P-chan
aka The Cursed One
@fullnet.com

A fellow anime lover, and determined would-be Juraian, P-chan was another earlycomer, and a genuinely interesting person to communicate with.

Sandman
aka Kuroi no Oni-sama
@sunflowr.usd.edu
@hotmail.com

Sandman comes to mind as a good friend who, as a Demon of the Black, was--thankfully--never afraid to speak with a lowly vampire hunter.

Hoagie
@hotmail.com

My few memories of this elusive one include a very brief appearance before I met with Paladine and Kain; however, like many things, it's all a bit too blurry to speculate any further at this point.

Bill44th
@worldnet.att.net

One of the select few who helped me not only through the world of chat, but through the then-very new world of software. Certainly, at least a few memorable chats took place.

General Celes
@hotmail.com

Although I am uncertain as to when, I do have recollections of chatting with General Celes in the AnimEigo chat room, most likely a bit later on in my Internet travels. Also one of the few people that I have received e-mail from in the past couple of years.

London
aka Setsuna Meiou
@sprynet.com

I remember little of London, save for a few chat sessions, and a few admittedly cryptic e-mails. Still, no "grudge" of any sort exists, as nothing of the sort existed in the first place.

Mephisto
@interlog.com

All that I seem to remember of Mephisto would be M's apparent ties with London.

Gavin
@hotmail.com

I do recall a few chat sessions with Gavin, as well as an ICQ request; however, communication apparently broke down over a moderately short period of time.

Cat-Flick Was Good
aka Cat-Flick
aka Carrot Girl
@borg.com
@geocities.com
@excite.com

The Cat-Flick, also a close (right down the street, in fact) friend at the time, entered the AnimEigo chat room upon my suggesting so, and the CF seemed to rather enjoy his experiences there. For all who may be wondering, the "cat flick" was Cat Girl Nuku Nuku, which CF apparently found to be most stimulating.

Tenchi
@netscape.com

Possibly Lord Tenchi, sent to address his followers at the House of Jurai? Perhaps not. I do recall a few "Tenchi's" and "Lord Tenchi's" coming and going throughout my lengthy stay at AnimEigo, and I recall only brief, polite, and friendly conversations.

Kitty Magic and Skuld
aka Skuld and Kitty Magic
@ix.netcom.com

What little I remember of Kitty Magic and Skuld is some sort of pair, possibly operating as one polite, always-willing-to-say-hello person. Unfortunately, I do not recall anything beyond that and a few nice conversations.
